Stanmer Park - Near Brighton - 8 hours, July 5
A classic park land venue with great natural trails on the outskirts of Brighton.
Course is being designed by top solo endurance racer Ian Leitch who is a local rider with the knowledge needed to put together a good circuit.
There is no camping on site though so the midday start brings an 8pm finish then it's down to a local hostelry for the after race party...well if you run a race in Brighton it would be daft not to utilise it's assets. Rumour has it that Mr Fisher will be in town for this one...Gary is never one to miss a party or some great riding. The aim of this event is to have a festival atmosphere so expect racing through the DJ tent and lots happening.
A variety of Prize sponsors have come on board with Harvey's Of Lewes providing 2x36 pint polypins, Freeridespain.com are giving an 8kilo Serrano Ham and Independent Fabrication are offering a full race strip. Put these together with the prizes from series Sponsors Gary Fisher and Torq energy and there will be a great prize package.
The Long Good Saturday is nearly upon us so time to provide you with a few more details about the race...
Venue:
Stanmer Park is on the outskirts of Brighton. Follow this link for a map. The venue postcode for Sat Nav is BN1 9QA. It is a Public Park and the council have kindly given us permission to park on the grass at the event site so you should be able to leave your car close to the track if you are competing. You can arrive anytime between 0900-1130 on Saturday Morning...there is no onsite camping.
Format:
This event is open to solos, pairs and teams of 4. If you're not soloing then you are entering a relay race but it is up to you what strategy you use, it is not compulsory to change riders each lap but all changeovers must take place in the specified transition area near the finish line. There will be Cash for top 3 Solo Men and prizes for top 3 solo Vet Men, top 3 Male and Mixed Pairs, Top 3 Male Teams, plus top Female Solo and Mixed Team. The race will start at 1200 for all categories and end at 2000...all laps must be completed by 2000 to count for your result. Timing will be provided by Timelaps with all lap times recorded and available on their website www.timelaps.co.uk after the event. As the finishing riders cross the line they will be presented with a free glass of beer courtesy of Harvey's of Lewes
Course:
Ian Leitch has designed an excellent course, there is a course map here, we have tweaked it a little since then to ensure all Rights Of Way are available, and a couple of small sections may be removed if things get a little wet this week. Our thanks to Ian, Simon Turner and friends for all their efforts in preparing a course whilst everything in Stanmer is growing! Ian describes the course as packed with singletrack and challenge to reward technical riders.
Facilities:
There will be catering on site all day from Humble Pie, who offer a great selection of Organic Pies. There will also be some loos and water available. The Gary Fisher demo fleet will be there and Wayne the Gary Fisher mechanic will be able to help trying and keep you moving if your bike breaks down (he works for beer). Swinnertons will be there for any last minute supplies an TORQ energy will be giving one of their new TORQ gels to every starter. They've decided to hand out the non-caffeinated ones this time, because they reckon you'll be lively enough - what with being in the 'socially uplifting' mecca of Brighton and all that.
Garmin Race within A Race:
Gary Fisher and Garmin have got together to offer you a unique demo concept. Take a Gary Fisher for a free test ride and at the same time you can trial a Garmin, but the difference is you can do this during the race as one of your race laps...What's more the fastest time on the demo bike wins a Garmin 705 and you will be able to compare your lap and stats on the Motionbased website post event.
If that's not enough then we will have a 4 DJ line up all day keeping you moving and motivated...why 4 well two of them will be racing so they will need to be spinning whilst they're not spinning...if you know what I mean...
Post Race Party:
Once presentations have taken place at 2015 we will quickly pack down the event and then all head off to Brighton for a few post race beers at the Hope in Queens Road Brighton. Apparently the first round will be on Gary Fisher himself who will be there sipping a few cocktails after winning the team event as part of the XCracer.com 29er team..... After that it's whatever takes your fancy...Brighton is a great place for a party.
Event Schedule:
0900 Site and Registration Opens
1130 Registration Closes
1200 Race Starts
2000 Race Ends
2015 Presentations all categories
2100 Post race party at the Hope.
Marshals:
Finally as this is a public park we need a few more marshals to help keep things moving. If you know of anyone over 16 that can help then please email me back. Marshals are in place from 1200-2000 and will be paid £30 plus packed lunch, goodie bag and event T-Shirt.
Hopefully this covers everything you need to know...if not please email me back.
Thanks
